The web is constantly evolving and users are becoming savvier. Your website might stay behind if it is not rejuvenated.
Technology & trends that were new yesterday, may just look outdated now. Technology changes fast and a site can begin to look and act old very quickly.
The other inevitable possibility is that your business might have changed. You might have introduced a new product/service/offer but your website is not updated accordingly.
The rules by which search engines list sites change constantly. If your website is not re invented taking into account these new rules then it can easily become lost in the search engine list.
